Work at Xeikon

I started at Xeikon in the second line team. My job was to help field engineers solve complex issues. Having no previous experience in the printing industry, I needed to be brought up to speed fast.

First I got three weeks of service training and then I joined the installation team to get to know the machine in and out. When I was not out on installations, I joined my colleagues at second line.

In the beginning, it was not easy to help field technicians over the phone. Especially when they had already two decades of experience on Xeikon printing presses. But after half a year of running around, passing questions and seeking help, I was finally able to solve the first issue on my own. I have to say it was hard work, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Every day I learned so many new things and I got involved with almost everybody in the company. From the R&D teams to the people from logistics. The open atmosphere at Xeikon makes it possible to talk to all of your colleagues and to get involved in a range of projects.

On my second year, I was combining installations with second line support and a bunch of beta projects. I like to have variation in my job, and that is certainly not a problem at Xeikon.

It didn’t take long before the next opportunity arose. After an intensive train-the-trainer course, I started to get involved with training. At first I was conducting basic training, then advanced training and over time my focus shifted towards consultancy.

The last two years, I have been spending about 70% of the time abroad to train customers, solve critical problems and optimize workflows. Working in different time zones, at the other side of the world has its own set of challenges.

It’s not a standard job, but that’s what makes it so much more interesting.
